Topic of the Week 8-20-2025
Wed, Aug 20, 2025 – Advice

I know I have said this before, but it's worth repeating - in fact, it's worth shouting from the rooftops. Nonprofit work, as infinitely rewarding as it is, can be incredibly stressful. Our industry is filled with people who have big hearts and big ideas to make the world a better place. Burn out is an epidemic in our line of work, largely because we care so much and take on more and more in the name of helping others. But we can't help others if we don't first take care of ourselves.

Your community needs your heart, your light, your ideas, and your passion! Make sure you are setting yourself up for success and longevity by finding the balance you need to protect your health and wellbeing, just as strongly as you would advocate for that of others. As you do periodically for your organization, it's important to take the time out to evaluate what is working for you and what isn't. If need be, explore ways to streamline and refine your approach so that you can be as effective and efficient as possible. Your energy is not infinite, so be thoughtful about how you are spending it. Your health and happiness are not only important for you and your loved ones; they are also essential for the success of your organization, its mission, and its beneficiaries!
